Marine Data Exchange Hackathon
The Crown Estate is excited to be hosting a Marine Data Exchange Hackathon on 29th March 2019 in London. This hackathon will challenge participants to tell the story of the Marine Data Exchange through exciting and impactful data visualisations and infographics.
The Marine Data Exchange is a unique database of over 160 TB of marine survey data held by The Crown Estate. This resource, the first of its kind, gives anyone with an interest in the marine environment free access to a pool of shared research and has the potential to have a huge impact on how the UK seabed is managed.
However, many potential users are not aware of the wealth of data available, and so your challenge is to change that in a powerful, visual way.
No marine background is required, we are looking for university students from a wide range of backgrounds, with skills in areas such as graphic design, data manipulation, science communication and spatial data. This challenge is a great opportunity to learn how to manage yourself in a team, to come up with creative ideas in a short space of time and to work in a friendly, collaborative atmosphere. This event will give participants the opportunity to develop their portfolios and to showcase their designs, with selected designs being featured in The Crown Estate publications.
This is a FREE event with a delicious lunch and snacks provided. The day will be rounded off with a drinks reception and canapes, with a chance to meet and network with employees at The Crown Estate.
To book your place, send an email to the address below telling us a little bit about yourself, including your area of study, the skills you will bring to the hackathon and why you’d like to attend. Only 15 spaces available so book soon!
